Elena Romero is Professor Emerita at the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) in Madrid. In Los yantares de Purim, she studies some couplets that deal with the folklore of this happy Jewish holiday of Purim, which takes place at the beginning of spring. She presents a few versions of each couplet, taken from ancient and modern editions, manuscripts and recordings preserved in many libraries and archives.
She remains faithfully devoted to the study of the subject, in the way of her previously book Y hubo luz y no fue tan buena. Las coplas sefardíes de Purim y los tiempos modernos (Barcelona, 2009). At the same time she takes in account the recently published study of her master and companion of her life, Iacob M. Hassán, Coplas de Purim (Madrid, 2010).
